Case Study

Customised Intercoms

Grove Court, Chelsea.

Grove Court, a well preserved Edwardian mansion block in Chelsea, London, faced the challenge of modernising its 35-year-old intercom system whilst integrating sensitively with the building's historic appeal.

Seeking an innovative product that would harmonise aesthetics and technology, the owners turned to Nick Evans Technology for a comprehensive upgrade.

Summary

The Challenge:

Grove Court's 28-property block required a technology overhaul to meet contemporary standards. The existing intercom system posed numerous functional and performance limitations, prompting the need for a refresh that combined functionality and design integrity.

The Answer: DoorBird Integration

Nick Evans, in collaboration with DoorBird, tailored a response that not only met the technical deliverables but also complimented the building’s visual appeal.

DoorBird's 3D configurator proved pivotal in this respect, and a front panel was customised with 29 LED illuminated brass call buttons, laser etched engraving and the inclusion of a fingerprint reader.

This unique setup, featuring a custom brass surface with vaulted name engraving, introduced a balance of design and convenience previously unseen.

Implementation:

The installation team, led by Nick Evans, integrated the DoorBird solution, including an IP Door Controller for enhanced front door security, and 28 IP Video Indoor Stations.

This initiative marked the first-of-its-kind retrofit smart upgrade for an outdated intercom system in the country, specifically within a multi residential setting.

Resident Feedback:

Residents at Grove Court commended the system for its user-friendly interface and clear communication with visitors.

The integration has also addressed residents' security concerns through motion capture events, providing an additional layer of safety.

Moreover, the system enables residents to communicate and grant access with greater ease and clarity, enhancing both security and convenience.

The dedicated app also adds to the overall ease of communication and access for residents situated away of the building.

Network Foundation:

A structured cable rewiring of the building was also undertaken by to facilitate the integration of the new intercom and replace the outdated wiring.

The network interconnects each property to a proactive platform that safeguards and maintains the network, whilst simultaneously providing real-time feedback on network and device performance.

Importantly, it achieves all this while upholding the privacy of each property.
